Rocket City

Due to the vagaries of the frequent flier program, we flew in and out of Huntsville to get to the cousins in Georgia. On the plus side, we were able to spend Monday at the ...

They had models of the rockets everywhere.

But they had a real Saturn 5 rocket inside the newest part of the museum.

The museum was an odd mix of modern and run-down. The newer exhibits and the video screens scattered around the museum were high tech and contained very good computer graphics to explain their concepts.

But then the rest of the exhibits and artifacts looked like they haven't been updated in years and years. And some of the interactive exhibits just didn't work.

But the children seemed to really enjoy their visit. I learned several new things about the space program from the exhibits. They had some things that you could touch or sit on.

Aaron is in one of their sleeping bags.

There weren't many people at the museum when we went so we were able to participate in all of the demonstrations. Deborah is helping the woman demonstrate hyperfuel.

Here Deborah is trying to help Aaron dock with Stephen's international space station.

The Shuttle landing simulator was working. Only my dh was able to land it without crashing.

The museum also had some unusual things. They had a rock climbing wall which was supposed to be like climbing rocks on Mars. Everywhere there is the big push for a trip to Mars. All the modern exhibits seemed to mention it. This is Stephen climbing the wall.

Nathan is on the left and my dh on the right. Both made it to the top.

They also had a G Force ride which let you experience 4 G's. My dh convinced Nathan to go on the ride with him. But he couldn't convince anyone to go on the Space Drop which let you experience free fall. We also saw an IMAX movie about the men that walked on the moon. At the end of the day (and we still a flight back home to do!), the children were a bit tired.

LOL, I love the tired kids picture best of all. It looks like the whole trip was great! So many neat things. :-)
