Our Annual Trip to the Zoo

Monday we went to the nearby children's zoo. It was a nearly perfect day. Sunny, but not too hot. All the animals were moving around. We saw the wolf walking, the otters wrestling, the penguins swimming and amazingly, we finally saw the bobcat. He's always been hiding somewhere when we have come before. The only disappointment is that the train wasn't working.

Deb and Aaron in the Dinosaur Dig area.

Milking a "cow" at the new farmyard exhibit.

There were still a lot of butterflies in the butterfly house.

Of course, we had to feed the sheep.

Deb looking at the new pig.

Since the train wasn't working, we took extra rides on the carousel.

I really like the kids' tye-dyed shirts. Our girls did some at horse camp, and we followed their instructions to run them through the dryer to set the color, but when we washed them, they still bled all over the place and the colors blended into a sort of sienna. How did you keep yours from doing that?

I've been following your blog all summer, and I am impressed at the level of energy and variety of experiences you all have had. Between park days and swim parties and zoo outings and berry picking amd ice cream socials and vacations, not to mention the non-stop garden work, I'm thinking that getting back into a homeschooling routine will actually be slow-paced and relaxing! :-)

The kids will certainly have wonderful memories of a summer full of fun!

The woman who helped us with the tye dying gave us some kind of setting solution. So when we got home, we washed it with the setting solution, then washed with plain water until they stopped bleeding and then dried them.

Yes, summer is always busier than the school year for us. I always think we'll get some kind of art project in or something enriching like that, but between the garden and the park and pool days, it never gets done. So yes, by the time school starts, I'm ready to slow down and not make so many trips into town!
