Day 2 - Sunburn already

We had a great dinner the first night at a place called Guadalajara.   The children were just wiped due to the long day flying and swimming so we vowed to take it easy on the first full day in Tucson.   By the morning, they were just fine and it was my dh and I that were glad for an "easy" day.   We started out by going to the Tucson Botanical Gardens.   It was on the site of a family home that used to run a nursery.   It was a wonderful way to introduce the children to the flora down here.    Aaron said, "Everything looks dry here."   And he was right.

The children really enjoyed seeing the tangerine, sour orange, pomagranite and grapefruit trees (picture below).

They were all anxious to get pictures of palm trees and cactus.   This place had plenty of both.

The tree on the left is a bay leaf tree.   I wish I could grow this in my backyard.

Deborah thought that the idea of a garden with only rocks in it was kinda silly.   She really thought it was silly when I told her that people thought that they could relax just by looking at the Zen garden.

This garden didn't have too many things that you could actually smell or be safe getting close.   Most of the flora had some kind of prickles or spikes on them!

Much to the delight of the children, they had an outdoors running model train.

Nathan liked this cactus very much.

Just seeing all the kinds of cactus and seeing them not only in gardens but everywhere made us wonder how people or horses could have gotten through this land in any kind of quick manner.

The wood looking thing is a dead skeleton of a saguaro cactus.

My favorite shot of the day.

After lunch at an air conditioned restaurant, we headed off to Hi Corbett field to catch the opening spring training game of the Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Happy crew before we started getting sunburned.

See, it was hot!   and those metal bleachers made it hotter.   We kept pouring water on our shirts.   It was so dry there that our shirts would be dry in minutes.   We made it to the middle of the 7th inning.   By then, I was sunburned on a couple places despite all the sunscreen I had lathered on.   Stephen and Aaron both had minor ones but we left before they got worse.
Still, it was fun seeing a spring training game.   I never thought that I would see one.
