A Perfect Califlower

The califlowers are ripe and delicious. This year we were finally on the ball and tied up the green leaves so that the head didn't get any sunshine. The results are very white califlowers. Too bad the county fair isn't this week.

Very pretty! What happens when they get sun on them? Do they turn yellow?

Yes, they turn a lovely dingy dirty shade of yellow. They are still perfectly good to eat, but they don't look it.

Wow, the things you learn... :) I love reading your blog...thanks for sharing all of your gardening things (and things about the kids). I am so much interested in the homesteading concept and I love reading how you guys do things.

This picture is really beautiful, with the white vegetable against that pretty blue table. You really have a photographic eye!

By the way, we were wondering what you do with your herbs. Do you dry them, or just use them fresh throughout the summer?

I dry them for use during the winter, use them fresh when I can, and I also make several different kinds of pesto.

all this is predicated on a lie!!!

i feel like the guy who knows that the aliens are coming but no one will listen to him.

people, listen: califlowers are not perfect. they are perfectly awful.
