Sledding Excitement

Two weeks ago, we had an exciting time of sledding. We met up with two other families and sledded for over an hour.

After all the fun, you still have to walk up the hill!
The children tried to go down as a group but...
... the ends soon wrapped around and it became a giant muddle of sleds.
Usually one or more of the sleds would break off. They never did get a good group sled the whole time.

Then they tried to race and see who could go down the hill the farthest.

The excitement came at the very end of the sledding time. Deborah crashed into Nathan who was trying to protect another girl from getting hit by Deborah. Their heads met and Deborah got a cut in her mouth, but Nathan got his head split. It wasn't too long or too deep, so we took him home, shaved his head, and put on a butterfly bandage. It is healing up nicely now.

6th Annual Tapas Night

This January 1st, we held our 6th Annual New Year's Day Tapas dinner.
The children and their dad worked all afternoon and part of the evening to prepare a 9 dinner gourmet Tapas meal.
So without further ado, the first course - Stephen's Olives in Lemon and Orange...
... and Nathan's Lime Drizzled Shrimp.
Next course - Baked Stuffed Onions. These were great and I liked them much better than stuffed green peppers.
They were served over rice and with a mushroom gravy poured over them.
Third course was Aaron's Cheese and Olive Empanadillas.
Fourth course: Aaron's Chorizo and Cheese Tortilla (which was really more like an omelette) and ...
... my dh's Green Beans with Pine Nuts.
Fifth course was Deborah's Ham Wrapped Potatoes ...
... and Stephen's Chicken in Lemon and Garlic.
Finally we finished off the meal at about 10 pm with Deborah's Powdered Sugar Cookies. These were very interesting. The cookies themselves were made with lard, dry white wine, and flour. Once they were cooked and cooled, they were coated in powdered sugar. It was like eating tasty and flaky pie crusts.

Enjoying the Snow

Over the Christmas holiday, I taught Deborah and Aaron to cross country ski.
Deborah really enjoyed it and went into the woods with me the next day.
While we were outside, Aaron noticed that snowflakes were on our picnic table and hadn't melted yet.

Pretty cool, aren't they?
